What is Antistatic ABS Plastic Material?

The resistance performance of SAN should be AN polarity and slightly lower than PS, but it still has sufficient insulation. The electrostatic charge on the surface of ABS Plastic can cause problems such as dust adsorption, difficulty in Demolding, and electrostatic discharge during processing, transportation, and use. Therefore, ABS Products need to have a certain degree of conductivity to prevent internal discharge and even shield the external electromagnetic interference to precision electronic components. Adding an antistatic agent can prevent static charge from being generated or dissipated, and is the main method for preparing Antistatic Grade ABS.


Antistatic agents can be added before or during ABS processing; according to the method of addition, the types of Antistatic Agents are as follows:


  (1) External Antistatic agent, which is coated on the surface of ABS products in the form of water or alcohol solution, and quaternary ammonium salt is the most frequently used. Quaternary ammonium salts can reduce the surface resistance of the parts, but they are easily removed during the use and cleaning of the parts. Therefore, they are widely used for short-term purposes such as preventing dust accumulation on display parts.


(2) The internal antistatic agent is added during ABS processing, and the added amount is small (0.1%~3%), which is compatible with ABS to a certain extent. Internal antistatic agents are divided into migratory antistatic agents and permanent antistatic agents. Migrating antistatic agents are ionic or non-ionic surfactants. The hydrophobic part has limited compatibility with ABS Plastic, and the hydrophilic part migrates to the inside of ABS. The surface can absorb water to increase surface conductivity.

Under the same formula conditions, production conditions such as blending equipment, blending process and injection molding process have a great impact on the performance of the final product, such as mixing temperature, residence time, screw speed, extrusion output, injection temperature, mold temperature And so on will directly affect the performance of the final product.
